Thomas Coyne is one of Alaska's most legendary wilderness experts. He trains Navy SEAL teams, Delta Force operators, and Special Forces units in wilderness survival, rescue, and emergency medicine.

A Day in the Wilderness

Move to new terrain (5 to 10 miles per day). Set up camp at exceptional sites. Practice and learn survival techniques.

Fly Into Anchorage
Fly into Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport at least one day before the expedition begins. This gives you time to rest, adjust, and get ready. We will have an Airbnb in Anchorage for the group to stay the night before and after the expedition. Need to store extra luggage? Luggage storage is available at the airport.

Night in Anchorage
Settle in at our group Airbnb in Anchorage. Meet the team, meet the other participants, go over final logistics, and enjoy a dinner together before heading into the wild.

August 8 — Morning
Board the Hurricane Turn
Group pickup at 8:00 AM at the downtown Anchorage Visitor's Center (524 W. 4th Avenue). Board the Hurricane Turn Flag Stop Train for a roughly 2.5 hour journey through stunning Alaskan terrain. The train drops us off at a remote point near Denali State Park. The expedition begins.

The Expedition
Eight days of wilderness survival training, fly fishing, trekking, and campfire living in the remote Alaskan backcountry. No cell service, no roads, no buildings. Just raw, untouched nature.

Train Back to Anchorage
The Hurricane Turn picks us up and brings us back to Anchorage. Celebrate the completed expedition with the group. Final night at the Airbnb.
August 16
Departure Day
Final morning in Anchorage. Say your goodbyes and head to the airport for your flight home. Book your return flight for August 16th or later.

Frequently Asked

No prior experience is required. The course is designed to take you from fundamentals to advanced skills over the eight day progression. Our expert instructor will meet you where you are and help you grow.
You should be able to hike 5 to 10 miles per day while carrying a loaded backpack (55 to 65 liters). The terrain is wild and uneven. If you can handle moderate to strenuous day hikes, you will be well prepared.
Daily meals are included. Breakfasts, lunches, and campfire dinners are all part of the experience. Much of the food will come from fishing and foraging. Water purification is one of the first skills taught, and clean water sources are abundant in the Alaskan backcountry.
All camping and fly fishing gear is included in the cost. Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, backpack, mess kit, and fly fishing equipment are all provided and ready for you. Just show up with your personal items and we handle the rest.
No. Once the train drops us off, you are off the grid. This is part of the experience. Emergency communication equipment will be carried by the expedition leaders for safety.
